What’s Buggin’ Greg?

When Greg woke up this morning something was different…very different.

He’d turned into a bug!

Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park’s production of WHAT’S BUGGIN’ GREG will be performed at the Miami University Voice of America Learning Center at 3 pm on Sunday, October 16. This free performance is open to the public and part of the ongoing collaboration between the Learning Center and The Arts Council of West Chester & Liberty.

WHAT’S BUGGIN’ GREG, winner of the Macy’s New Play Prize, tells the story of fifth-grader Greg Samsa who wakes up one morning to discover that he has turned into a giant cockroach. What will he tell his friends? How can he face his schoolmates? Can he still perform the lead in his school play? Will his mom ever hug him again? Or is he doomed to be a science exhibit for the rest of his life?

This riotous comedy touches on issues of friendship and self-confidence, as well as body image and disability. The play is recommended for ages 7 and older.

“Darrah Cloud has turned the dark and twisted world of Franz Kafka inside out to create a fantastically funny exploration of what it means to be different – really different – in our unforgiving world. I’m not sure who’s going to enjoy it more, the kids or the adult,” said Director of Education Mark Lutwak.

Audience members will have the opportunity to meet the actors and enjoy refreshments after the performance.

The Playhouse’s Off the Hill program is made possible by The Robert and Adele Schiff Family Foundation. ArtsWave Presents, a program bringing musicians, dancers, actors and artists from Cincinnati’s arts organizations into neighborhoods for public performances, also provides support.

This performance and other arts events at the Learning Center are part of Miami University’s year-long celebration of the Year of the Arts.

Miami University’s Voice of America Learning Center is located at 7847 VOA Park Drive, at the corner of Cox Road and VOA Park Drive, in West Chester. For more information visit www.muohio.edu/voalc or call (513) 895-8862.
